Heritage tour of Fréjus
In Fréjus, two thousand years of history await you. Your camping holidays in the Var are the ideal opportunity to discover the rich heritage of this city founded under Julius Caesar. Begin your journey through time at the amphitheatre and at the foot of the Roman aqueduct before heading towards the Cathedral buildings, a group of four monuments that provide evidence of the growth of Christianity in France during the Middle Ages. End your trip at villa Aurélienne - a beautiful example of Fréjus’ rich heritage- and take a stroll around its gardens. We bet you’ll love its charming, Italian, Renaissance-inspired architecture!
Time to eat! Var’s regional products await you...
Come lunch or dinner time, you’ll undoubtedly be tempted by Fréjus’ regional specialities. Begin the festivities with a “daube provençale” stew, one of the region’s must-try dishes, or opt instead for sea bream à la provençale (Provence style). In the markets, you can pick up some Var tomatoes and courgettes, as well as some delicious “fougasse” (seasoned flatbread) to enjoy with your “soupe au pistou” (vegetable soup with basil paste). If you’re after a refreshing dessert, try Brousse du Var, a curd cheese made from ewe’s milk.
