A magical day on the Island of Porquerolles

A few minutes away by boat from the Peninsula of Giens at Hyères, you will discover the Island of Porquerolles, often referred to by the name, « l’île d’or » (the Golden Island).

A few minutes away by boat from the Peninsula of Giens at Hyères, you will discover the Island of Porquerolles, often referred to by the name, « l’île d’or » (the Golden Island).

You can discover the island in various ways: by foot, bicycle or simply by relaxing on the beach … This place is idyllic for your Instagram holiday photos 😉

If you dream about transparent, turquoise blue water, 30 minutes by foot from the village, you can be on the beach Plage Notre-Dame. Get up early, it is the time to grab your mask and  snorkel ! With a little luck, you will see sole, red mullet, numerous  schools of white seabream.

Those who wish to have lunch with a superb view of the sea, we suggest a beach called « Plage d’Argent »  accessible by a 20 minute walk from the port. Its turquoise blue and shallow water is perfect for children !

Bikes remain the best means to travel around the island. Edouard and Isabelle have started up their small company ” Porquerolles à Velo “, and will share their knowledge and offer suggestions as to how to best see the region. Don’t hesitate to go to their home in the morning. Follow the cicada sounds, feast on the perfumes and take advantage of the landscape !

For those who wish to take a long walk, meet at the Moulin du Bonheur. It is something one cannot miss on the island, the view is breathtaking. The mill is well restored and well worth the entry fee.

Le Fort St Agathe is a magnificent site which offers, once again, exceptional  views ! The panorama which dominates Porquerolles is one of the most beautiful across the island, leaving behind the bars and restaurants for a very peaceful place. You will also have the possibility of taking a trip with a guide to discover the military past of the island [not so long ago !]

As you travel by boat towards the Island of Porquerolles you will not miss its port. Very popular in Summer, it remains a lovely, charming spot to stroll  around before setting out to see other sites.

Finally, for the more adventurous ones, those who love deep sea diving you will have the opportunity to be guided by a team of friendly and experienced divers. Added to that you have the chance of taking your first dive with the forever smiling Pierre at « Porquerolles Plongée » !
