A day in Saint-Tropez with Le French Time

Only one hour from Les Castels Le Domaine de la Bergerie campsite is the mystical city of Saint-Tropez...

It has become famous thanks to  the numerous movies filmed in its surroundings such  as   “And God Created Woman ” with Brigitte Bardot, ” The Swimming Pool » with Romy Schneider and still the popular series ” The Gendarmes “, Saint Tropez  continues  to fascinate us by its varied identity.

At the same time as being a typically Provençal village with its narrow streets and pavements, its coloured houses and lavender fields , Saint Tropez is also associated  with it’s jet setters  lifestyle and  its port filled with the yachts of the mega rich and famous .

A stop over in Saint Tropez is a real must if you stay at our Le French Time campsite !

We suggest you arrive early in the morning to make the most of the city in a quieter  environment, plus parking spaces will be also easier to find! Unfortunately most of the car parks are not free of charge in high season. You may find free spots on your arrival into the city but you will then have to walk to get into the centre of town.

The city of Saint Tropez offers many experiences, you can begin your visit by following the « Vieux Port » and its impressive armada of luxurious boats ! Yachts, luxurious sailboats or colourful fishermen’s  boats, it is not unlikely that you would see  a  film star or a  well known millionaire at the waters edge ! You will also find on your walk the café ” Senequier “, recognisable by its facade and its lively red vintage furniture.

Going back up into the town towards the bell tower of the church « Notre-Dame de l’Assumption » which is magnificent, known for its ochre colour and its yellow bell tower. Here  you can satisfy your desire for shopping. Between  shops selling luxury goods and department stores. For the last seven years Chanel opens its Summer boutique situated in a former old mansion at 1 avenue du Général Leclerc.

Visit the elevated Citadel in the hills of Moulins for a magnificent vast view of the city and the turquoise blue water of the Mediterranean Sea. This building has become the Musée de l’Histoire Maritime de Saint Tropez.

Finally end your day with a visit to the famous National Gendarmerie, immortalised on the screen by the famous actors Louis de Funès and Michel Galabru. A photo in front of the facade is imperative for a wonderful souvenir !

You can also visit the Museum of the Gendarmerie and the cinema which shows the numerous short films made in the city !

Before retracing your tracks back to Les Castels Le Domaine de la Bergerie campsite, treat yourself to a refreshing swim in the clear blue waters and then take the coastal path which runs from the Tour de Portalet to the fascinating Pampelonne, via the bay « des Canebiers » and the famous Madrague de Brigitte Bardot !
