A weekend at Île de Ré

An escape that you must experience whilst on this island where life is very enjoyable.

Here is the program, bike rides, water sports and a historic visites !

Getting to Île de Ré is very easy, you just have to cross the bridge at La Rochelle. Driving along the 3 km bridge before arriving on the island, gives one the opportunity to take in the view from above !

Once on the island, leave your car at Saint Martin en Ré, the “capital” of the island and take advantage of visiting this harbour city where the monuments and ramparts are the work of the renowned engineer Vauban.

On the road towards the headland of the island you will find numerous salterns (salt water ponds). Many tours are available for you to discover the saliculture of the region. You may even leave with your own sample of salt !

Only a few kilometres away is a typical town called Ars en Ré, which is not to be missed ! Single storied houses decorated with colourful flowers, paved narrow side streets, this charming marina will certainly charm you !

End your tour of Île de Ré by visiting the beautiful historical monument « Phare des Baleines » which is situated at the extreme western point. Built in 1854, the lighthouse incorporates a museum dedicated to all lighthouses and navigation. At 57 metres, a fantastic view over the ocean stretches before you !

Have a great weekend at Île de Ré !
