Oléron Island, a new destination

Oléron is an island with some surprises up its sleeve. To make sure you get the most out of your stay, don’t hesitate to ask Agnès and Jean-Marie, the campsite owners to tell you about their much-loved region. They will be delighted to tell you about their favourite places and give you some good tips about where to go.

While you’re waiting to come to the campsite, here is a sneak preview of the must-sees of the area:

  • The beaches: enjoy the 100 kilometres of coastline while you’re staying on Oléron Island. You are sure to find a quiet sandy spot just for you, facing the big blue ocean or the bay of Marennes.
  • Fort Louvois: this fort is in the shape of a horseshoe and is a slightly smaller version of Fort Boyard. A one-of-a-kind visit, unique architecture, all-in-all an unforgettable experience to be had as a family or with friends. Not-to-be-missed: climb the tower to be greeted with a panoramic view of the surrounding area from the top.
  • The Château d’Oléron citadel: built by Richelieu onto the ruins of the ancient medieval castle. To learn all there is to know about the history here, go on one of the many guided tours available: on a small train, educational tour or evening tour with entertainment.
  • Fort Boyard: have you heard of the famous TV show? Come and see this impressive, famous fort up close.  This is a dream come true for children, and for adults too.
