Cultural news in Languedoc-Roussillon, Summer 2016.

During the festival of Avignon, from 6th to 20th July, the Palace of the Popes is transformed into a veritable city of theater, staging contemporary live performances. As the night falls from 10th August to 2nd October Avignon illuminates the Palace of the Popes with « Les Luminessences d’ Avignon », a 360 ° angle projection show is beamed on the monument. Its magical!

The music festival « Jazz à Sète » is organized by the maritime heritage city from the 13th to 19th July. This year welcoming the renowned Canadian singer and pianist Diana Krall.

Another folk event that the city has offered for years is the Tournament of Water Jousting, which takes place in the middle of June to early September. It is a wonderful opportunity to watch  this traditional sport being played.

The Canal Royal in the coastal town of Sete in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the South of France. Sete is a port and a sea-side resort on the Mediterranean Sea with its own very strong cultural identity, traditions, cuisine and dialect.

The « Festival de Carcassonne » takes place from 4th July to 1st August. Various programmes are offered, in the heart of the medieval city: Concerts (Indochine, Pharell, Maitre Gims, Louane …) theatre, dance, circus, jazz, opera and classical. A unique area yet to be discovered!

« Visa pour l’image » held in Perpignan from 27th August to 11th September 2016 is the first international festival of photojournalism that takes place. Each year the entire city of Perpignan exhibitis photojournalist works from around the world showing the previous years events. Free entrance every day from 10 am to 8 pm.

These events take place in larger cities of the region but don’t forget the smaller towns close to your holiday resort where regular night markets, festivals and wonderful local food is available. Enquire at the reception of your Le French Time campsites !
